F. Scott MacLeod was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1954. As a youth, he moved to Ontario with his family, where he developed his career as a painter. In 1999, he returned to Nova Scotia, and now lives in Lunenburg. Scott is a self-taught artist, and works mainly in oil on canvas, creating paintings which convey mood and emotion through the use of bold compositions and vibrant, layered colour applied with skillful brushwork. Whether composing landscapes, figures, or other subject matter, his works are based on restructured memories. Instead of working 'on site' or from reference materials, he prefers the more completely creative approach of a studio based practice, and yet his paintings always suggest something familiar to the viewer. Scott has a large following in Canada, and has works in many private and corporate collections in Canada and the United States.
