Gillian McCulloch studied fine arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and illustration at Sheridan College, Brampton, Ontario. While well-known in Nova Scotia as a printmaker, she has also gained increased recognition as a portrait painter. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows since 1981 and her portrait commissions have taken her to British Columbia, England and across Nova Scotia, where she has painted portraits of many notable Nova Scotians. Gillian recommends the experience of sitting as one of self-reflection for the sitter, and a wonderful learning experience for both painter and subject. The artist has works in many private collections in Canada and England, as well as the collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Masterworks Foundation of Bermuda.
