In 1982, we organized the first Halls Harbour Dory Race. The race began at the Halls Harbour wharf, and afdter the boats rounded what the locals call Seagull Rock at Cranberry Point, they finished back at the wharf. There was quite a roll on that day, and the northwest wind put the dories in close to the rock. Calvin and I had rowed well out, anticipating that the wave and wind action would aid us in rounding the rock, which it did, enabling us to cut off the second boat and win the race back to the wharf. Short Point and Huntington Point are in the background, with Isle Haute out on the Bay of Fundy.
