This is set in a one-room school house which I attended in Halls Harbour. The salmon was caught locally in weirs and served “poached” with fresh vegetables from the gardens. The mayonnaise, rolls and pickles were homemade. It was a bit of heaven. Who would have guessed this would soon be history? During the ‘70s the commercial salmon fishery was banned, ending the Salmon Suppers.
