Ron Kuwahara has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University, where he graduated with a major in painting in 2011. After a distinguished career as a physicist (Phd. Physics, 1971 – University of British Columbia), Kuwahara decided to formally pursue his life-long interest in drawing and painting. Whether rendering a landscape or developing an abstract composition, his works reflect a simultaneously analytical yet painterly manner. “I have two main objectives when I paint. At a distance I want to convey the recognition of a landscape; up close I want abstracted patterns and paint marks to predominate. I am intrigued by how gestural paint marks form recognizable images from afar… My scientific curiosity complements my artistic aspirations by looking for underlying structures and patterns in the natural world and the human form.”
