The powerfully sculpted skies and clouds in the work of Joyce Martin reveal how dramatically she renders her reverence for wind and weather. Choosing the coastal outports of Nova Scotia as her primary subject matter, she reveals how closely we are linked with the natural elements. It is an awareness born out of living perched on the edge of the sea overlooking an active fishing village. Joyce grew up in the Belleisle Bay area of New Brunswick and first studied art with Fred Ross in Saint John. She went on to receive her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She studied for one year at the Centre De Gravure Contemporaine, Geneva, Switzerland. She has exhibited in many private and public galleries in Nova Scotia and her work can be found in numerous private collections in the United States and Canada.
