Caulking,1995
During the 1990s a local Halls Harbour artist, John Neville was known to complete the fabrication of a small dory each winter. This etching depicts John Neville in the final stages of completion, caulking the inside of the dory. The cotton caulking acts as a sealant between the boards. The next step is to paint and spray the vessel with water allowing the boards to swell up. The dory is then ready for a paint job and the open water. Boat building is a dying art lost over the generations especially since the depletion of the cod fishing industry.
