Hale-Bopp,1997
On March 22, 1997, Hale-Bopp made its closest approach to Earth. A photograph taken by an amateur astronomer seemed to show a huge “Saturn-like object” streaking alongside the comet. It sparked “a bit of madness”, and several followers of a California cult took their lives to join this object they believed to be a spaceship to a better new world.
”Life is like going fishing-one never knows he end result, but the experience is the important part. A young girl, dressed like a seafaring Nordic Princess has gone fishing on the sea of her life. The Maritime dory is the symbol of family here in Atlantic Canada. In a way, the young lady depicted here represents my daughters setting out on the sea of life. ” –Joyce Martin
